- Update Frequency: Our data pipeline runs automated syncs multiple times daily to refresh stock status, delivery costs, and prices.
- Total Landed Cost: Where provided, our system displays the total cost (handset/item price + standard UK delivery) so you are never surprised at checkout.
- Historical Price Stability: We track product price trends over time to identify whether a "Was £X" sale price represents genuine savings or temporary inflation.
2. Algorithmic Product Matching
Accurate price comparison requires strict SKU matching. A 256GB iPhone cannot be compared against a 128GB version, and an outright handset must never be compared to a monthly contract.
🔍 GTIN / EAN & MPN Verification
We verify standard barcodes (EAN-13, UPC, GTIN) and manufacturer part numbers to guarantee that offers in a comparison table represent the exact same model.
🧹 Statistical Outlier Filtering
Our custom outlier detection algorithms automatically identify and purge monthly pay-monthly airtime tariffs (e.g. £22/mo) and cheap screen protectors from outright handset comparison tables.
3. Retailer Vetting & Quality Standards
We only index registered businesses that comply with UK Consumer Rights and Distance Selling regulations.
- UK Security & Compliance: Merchants must offer secure HTTPS checkout, transparent refund policies (minimum 14-day statutory return window), and clear customer support contacts.
- Feed Accuracy Monitoring: If a merchant repeatedly submits out-of-stock items or incorrect prices, their feed is automatically quarantined until corrected.
4. How SmartShop Makes Money (Affiliate Transparency)
SmartShop UK is 100% free for consumers to use. We generate revenue through affiliate partnerships and advertising:
- Affiliate Commissions: When you click a "Visit store" or "Buy now" button and make a purchase on a retailer's website, the retailer may pay us a small referral commission at no additional cost to you.
- Zero Cost to Shoppers: The price you pay is identical whether you go directly to the retailer or visit through SmartShop.
- No Paid Placement for Best Price: Retailers cannot pay to have a higher price ranked above a cheaper competitor. Best price rankings are determined 100% mathematically by landed price.
5. Corrections & Reporting Errors
While our automated scrapers and feed parsers check prices continuously, rapid stock sellouts or retailer flash sales can occasionally cause brief discrepancies.
